Bacteria from a lake

Cultivation vessel which is separated into two halfs by a membrane. The membrane (top left) is permeable for released substances, but not for bacterial cells
A special vessel with a dialysis membrane can be used to study the effect of signal compounds in microbial cultures. The two chambers are filled with suspensions of different bacteria. Excreted signal compounds can permeate through the membrane and thus influence the bacteria on the other side.
