Diatoms

Tracks of diatoms, left behind during migration on a solid ground. Cells like to use tracks formed by a foregoing cell.
Many pennate diatoms are able to migrate on solid surfaces. They possess an organell called raphe. These are grooves running along the longitudinal axis. Through the raphe, the cells excrete polymers that glue to the ground. Then the cells use the anchorage for a forward movement.
