While moving, these bacteria do not rotate around their long axis, as it is normally observed for other elongated bacteria. Instead, they rotate around their short axis giving the impression of a boomerang moving through the water. Additionally, the bacteria can attach with an excreted mucous stalk to solid surfaces, where they keep rotating like a windmill.
